An old Helical customer who manufactures laboratory equipment contacted us with a new application. In developing a new chemical mixer, they placed a blind assembly of the coupling directly over the mixing bowl. While testing an aluminum coupling, the wear in the blind area caused aluminum dust to fall and contaminate the chemical being mixed. It was necessary to find the proper material that gave the desired life and did not interfere with the chemical being mixed.
Using Delrin (plastic), which is a chemically inert material, resolved the contamination situation. The HELI-CAL® Flexure met the torque and misalignment specifications and allowed for a quick disconnect of a new stirring paddle.
